Angry Tafo residents are wrong – Alexander Ackon

The Ashanti Regional Minister Alexander Ackon has kicked against requests by Old Tafo residents to be allowed to arm themselves forward off attacks on them by some Zongo youth.

Old Tafo residents have complained that they are assaulted by the youth and thus demanded for weapons to launch retaliatory attacks.

Zongo youth clashed with Tafo traditional authorities some months ago over demarcation of a cemetery fence wall for burials.

But speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he explained that anarchy will not be allowed to revisit the people of Kumasi.

‘Tafo residents are totally wrong to call for weapons, the results of the so-called lost of confidence is anarchy and chaos, if people call for arms and they are going to defend themselves, definitely that is not the way to go, its out, the confidence should be with the security agencies, …nobody should take the laws not his/her hands, is not going to happen because anarchy will not be allowed to revisit people of Kumasi, that one we are not going to compromise,’ he emphasised.

He urged Tafo residents to exercise some restraint while the security forces initiate moves to restore calm in the area.

‘I plead that let’s us help not to raise tension, we have done a lot of consultations, we are working very hard to ensure that we don’t cross that line, we are on the ground, we are doing a lot to ensure that we don’t get overtaken by events. Authoritatively the security agencies is in control and will continue to be in control,’ he assured.
