Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A) May 26, GNA- Angry students of Dormaa Secondary School on Wednesday attacked GIFT FM radio station at Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region demanding the blood of its workers. The irate students wielding stones and cudgels and other offensive weapons vandalized part of the building of radio station but no arrests have been made.
Mr Yaw Ansah, a presenter on duty, told the GNA that the action lasted for about 30 minutes before the students dispersed on seeing a vehicle approaching the scene.
He said students apparently took the action because a news item was carried by the station earlier in the day on a statement issued by the executive of the Parent Teacher Association condemning the indecent behaviour of students of the educational institution.
The students claimed the PTA statement had described them as aimless, prostitutes and wee smokers who did not know why they are in school. Mr. Paul Ankamah, Chairman of the PTA and Mr. Alex Baah Boffah, Headmaster, had apologised to the radio station for the “unruly and insensitive behaviour of the students”.
The PTA executive issued the statement at an emergency meeting on Wednesday during which they discussed NAGRAT’s industrial action, its effect on students, especially those in the final year and what the association could do to assist them.
The statement condemned the students for roaming in town and indulging in distasteful activities.
The association called on the government and NAGRAT to find a solution to the strike action in the interest of the country’s development.
The association called on third year students of the school to report for peer teaching and learning towards their final Examinations.
