Ango hit by water shortage

Ango (Ash), Feb. 1, GNA – Ango, a farming community near Mpasaso in the Ahafo-Ano South district of Ashanti is facing acute water shortage. Mr Peter Ntow, a farmer in the town at the weekend told the GNA that two hand-dug wells provided by the assembly had all dried up and animals had polluted the Asuokorkor stream, a major source of water for the town.

Mr Ntow said the people, especially women and children had to walk long distances to get water and this was affecting education and the daily lives of the people.

He, therefore, appealed to the district assembly and the Ghana Water Company to collaborate efforts to solve the problem. Mr Ntow asked the government to repair the Ango-Mpasaso road adding that farmers could not transport their foodstuff to the marketing centres due to the poor nature of the road.

He also expressed disappointment that the only day care centre in the town had to be closed down because parents could not pay their children’s school fees.

Mr Ntow appealed to the Member of Parliament for the area, philanthropists and organisations to assist brilliant but needy children in the town to enable them complete their education.

Mr Fred Yeboah, the supervisor of the mass cocoa spraying exercise in the town, commended the government initiating the programme, which he said, had helped to increase cocoa yield.

He asked the people to set aside their political differences and unite for the development of the area.
