Anglogold Iduapriem Mine gives computers to FIASEC

Tarkwa (W/R), Oct. 29, GNA – The Management of Anglogold Ashanti, Iduapriem Mine has donated eight computers and accessories worth twenty-four million cedis (24 million cedis) to Fiaseman Senior Secondary School (FIASEC) at a ceremony at Tarkwa. Presenting the computers, Mr Peter Sampson, Acting Managing Director of the company said the donation was in response to an appeal made by the school.

He said the company had earlier on donated some computers to the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) basic school, adding that, the gesture falls within the company’s social responsibility.

“It is only proper that the company extends a hand to complement the efforts of the school, by providing the computers, which will benefit both students and the teaching staff,” Mr Sampson said.

He continued that Anglogold Ashanti was committed to the promotion of education within the community in which it operates and not only has the company built schools for some of the communities but has also assisted teachers and provided scholarships to some needy but brilliant students.

He pledged that the company would continue to assist the communities in the areas of their needs. Mr Joseph Essien, Headmaster of the school thanked the company for responding to their request positively and promised that the computers would be put to good use.

He said the donation was a welcome gesture, adding that, computer literacy was now basic requirement for job placement and therefore, the support from the company would go a long way to enhance the marketability of the students in the job market in future. Present at the ceremony were Mr Kwamena Sakyi-Yorke, Head of Community and Public Relations and Management Staff of the company.
