Ejisu (Ash), Jan 30, GNA – The Anglican Diocese of Kumasi has set up an endowment fund to raise funds to complete development projects it had initiated to improve the lives of communities in the diocese. The projects included a students’ hostel being constructed at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), a spiritual renewal centre and cashew and mango plantations.
The Kumawu Archdeaconry of the Church on Sunday organised a special service to publicise the fund and the need for members to contribute to it.
Speaking at the service held at Ejisu, Reverend Father George Boakye-Danquah, a Roman Catholic Priest, noted that it was a good thing for the Anglican Church to embark on a project that would create avenues for the youth to acquire knowledge.
“I was personally touched when I saw that the Anglican Church was engaged in a hostel project for students at the KNUST in Kumasi”, he said.
Rev Fr Boakye-Danquah said it was time for Christians to contribute towards the development of their churches instead of looking to donors. He charged Christians to mobilize themselves for the growth and development of the kingdom of God and condemned those who did not give out willingly to support the work of God.
He added that Christians should have enormous responsibility to show love to mankind and also be charitable to the needy. Venerable John Kingsley Mensah, Archdeacon of the Kumawu Archdeaconry of the Anglican Church, appealed to members of the Church to embrace the fund so that collectively they could help to develop the nation.
He asked parents to take advantage of the government’s school feeding programme and that of the capitation grant and send their children to school.
