Anglican Bishops launch committee on University

Manso Nkran, (Ash), May 31, GNA- The Anglican Bishops of Ghana has launched a six-member Central Implementation Committee (CIC), mandated to ensure the establishment of a proposed Anglican Institute of Technology University at Manso-Nkran in the Amansie West District of Ashanti.

The Committee has Right Reverend Francis Quashie as chairman, Rt. Rev. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Retreat Director and Venerable Dawson Amoah as Retreat Coordinator.

The rest were Professor Marian E.Addy, Coordinator, Chancellor, S.H Annancy, chairman of the fund-raising Sub-committee and Mr. William Baidoo-Ansah, Coordinating Secretary. Rt. Rev. Francis Quarshie, Presiding Bishop on Tuesday speaking at the launch on the theme “Anglican University-Seeking Divine Direction” on Tuesday, said the initiative of the Church was to supplement government’s efforts at providing skilled manpower to attain the Millennium Development Goals.

He thanked President John Agyekum Kufuor for the release of facilities of Resolute Amansie Limited at Manso-Nkran for the project. Bishop Quarshie also thanked Otumfuo Osei tutu 11, the Asantehene for contributing towards the realization of the dream of the Anglican Church of which he is a member.

He charged the Implementation Committee to map out effective strategies to enable it act with dispatch for the immediate take-off of the project.

Rt. Rev. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, said the University would need a start up capital and called on parishes and dioceses of the Church and public-spirited individuals to contribute to the project.

He said apart from seeing to the spiritual needs of the people, the Church was also obliged to contribute the material needs of the people, especially in the areas of education, health and sanitation. Bishop Sarfo thanked the Ghana Minerals Commission for assisting the Church to acquire the facilities for the project.
