Anfoega citizens raise funds towards theatre equipment

Accra, April 3, GNA-Citizens of Anfoega Traditional Area resident in the Accra-Tema Metropolis, on Sunday, bagged more than two million cedis, at a fund-raising rally in Accra, towards the purchase of theatre equipment for Anfoega Catholic Hospital.

“Dzadikumanenyo”, an organisation for the development of the traditional area and the Olive Lions Club of Kpando jointly organised the function. Togbe Noagbesenu III, President of the Olive Lions Club stressed the need for the people to rekindle their communal spirit, without which, he said, no meaningful development could take place in the area.

Togbe Noagbesenu, who is also the Fiaga of Awate, said a grand durbar would be held on Easter Sunday to climax activities marking the 40th anniversary of the hospital, which was commissioned on November 18, 1959 by Ghana’s First President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Mr Fabian Donkor, Administrator of the Hospital, urged citizens of the town to pay their levies of 5,000 cedis per non-resident and 1,000 per resident. Mr Peter Hayibor, General Secretary of “Dzadikumanenyo”, said street lighting projects for the major towns in the traditional area would be officially handed over to the people on Good Friday, at the forecourt of the Anfoega Traditional Council.

He announced that the organisation would give awards to the overall best pupil and the best girl in science and mathematics in each of the five junior secondary schools in the area as well as the best school in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations, this year.

The General Secretary said five workshops are being constructed for the schools and urged the beneficiary students to make the best use of them. The Gyasehene of Anfoega, Togbe Odoom Kumato II, who was the chairman for the occasion, asked the people to unite to ensure the rapid development of the area.
