An eight-year-old pupil drowns in river Pru

Kwadwo Asumanin, an eight-year-old pupil of Nsugum District Assembly Primary School in the Nkoranza Municipality has drowned in River Pru.

The river served as the boundary for two farming communities, Nsugun and Makyinnabre where the inhabitants undertake fishing activities.

An eye-witness account said Asumanin accompanied by two of his classmates went to swim in the river when the incident occurred.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Owusu, Nkoranza Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that the deceased was staying with his uncle Mr Owusu Afriyie, a farmer in the area.

He said Mr Afriyie reported to the police that the three boys went to the river after school hours and when the other two boys noticed the absence of the deceased, rushed home and reported the matter upon which the youth in the community followed up to search for him.

DSP Owusu said the search party could not find the corpse until the following day and has since deposited it at the Saint Theresa’s Catholic Hospital’s morgue at Nkoranza for autopsy whilst the Police continued with their investigations.
