Aflao (V/R), July 10, GNA – David De-Souza 45, who was released from prison two years ago on a presidential amnesty, is back in the Aflao Circuit Court for stealing.
De-Souza who claimed to be a Bible student at the God Divine Ministry at Abeka Lapaz in Accra, pleaded not guilty to three counts of unlawful entry, unlawful damage and stealing.
He has been remanded in prison custody until Monday, July 24. Mr Kofi Frimpong, Police Chief Inspector at Aflao, told the court, presided over by Group-Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (rtd), that the complainant, Bright Fiafome, a Clearing Agent and De-Souza lived in different parts of Viepe a suburb of Aflao.
He said at about 1300 hours on July 6, this year, Fiafome returned home from work to see the main door to his house forced open and items including electrical gadgets, assorted canned foods, cooking utensils and two bags of rice all valued at about five million cedis missing. Mr Frimpong said while Fiafome and some of his friends where tracing some foot prints from the house, they saw De-Souza ahead of them carrying some head load in addition to a plastic container, which the complainant recognized as his.
He said De-Souza dropped the items he was carrying and took to his heels, when Fiafome and his friends ordered him to stop but was given a hot chase and arrested.
Mr Frimpong said when the load De-Souza was carrying and a sack containing some items, which he left with a woman near the road were examined, they were found to contain Fiafome’s missing items. The Presiding Judge told De-Souza: “you have made nonsense of the amnesty and people like you should not have been pardoned.”
