Takoradi, April 4, GNA- The Executive Committee of the Amenfi Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accepted the results of the primaries and confirmed the election of Mr Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah as their Parliamentary candidate for the December 2004 elections.

A statement issued in Takoradi at the week-end by the Committee said, “we hereby accept the results of the elections and pledge faithfully to support Mr Ackah, who won the elections as our Parliamentary candidate for 2004”. It was signed by Mr Kwame Armah, Constituency Chairman, Mr Joseph Damoah, First Vice Chairman, Mr.Felix Ofosu-Nyame, Secretary, Mr Armah Blay, Organiser and Mr Adu Ampofo Financial Secretary.

The statement said their decision was the outcome of a meeting the Committee and the Western Regional Executive Committee of the NPP under the Chairmanship of Mr Peter MacManu held to resolve the impasse. It said, “we have resolved amicably the fracas and misunderstanding, which arose out of the Parliamentary primaries held at Agona Amenfi on November 7, last year and declare that the results are not nullified”.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience that the publication in the March 27 issue of the Daily Graphic under the headline, “Amenfi Central NPP Parliamentary primaries annulled had caused”. “It has become clear to us that the polling station album was actually brought to the centre and used during the primaries”, the statement said. “We sincerely apologise to the rank and file of the NPP for any apprehension the said publication might have caused. We pledge our unflinching loyalty to the NPP and will work assiduously to defeat the NDC at Amenfi Central Constituency”, the statement added.
