The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Ambulance Service, Prof. Ahmed Zakari, has stated that the 30 ambulances purchased by the Ministry of Health did not meet the specifications needed to run ambulance service in Ghana.
According to him, the technical team of the Ghana Ambulance Service was not involved in the procurement process.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Prof. Ahmed Zakari explained that with respect to the procurement of ambulances, the technical tem of the ministry is supposed to be involved in the whole process.
According to him, the problem came at the point of manufacturing since the technical teams of the ministry was not involved.
About 30 ambulances estimated at $2.4 Euros were purchased by the Ghana Ambulance Service under the Mahama administration.
Former Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, has also denied that the purchase of these 30 ambulances estimated at $2.4 million was secured during his tenure.
The Ministry of Health has referred the issue to the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for investigations.
