Amantem Nkwanta Catholic Primary School appeals for help

Amantem Nkwanta (E/R), Feb. 11, GNA – The Amantem Nkwanta Catholic Primary School has made an urgent appeal to the Birim South District Assembly to construct a new classroom block to replace the present deteriorating structure.

The headteacher of the school, Mr Michael Asare Tawiah, who conducted newsmen round the school block during the celebration of the Catholic Education Week, described it as a “death trap”. According to him, the condition of the block got worsened every year, adding that, any time it threatened to rain, classes had to be suspended and pupils sent home.

Mr Tawiah therefore, appealed to the Assembly to take steps to construct a new building to forestall any disaster in the future. Addressing the pupils earlier, the Chief of Amantem Nkwanta, Nana Ofosu Appiah, urged them to be disciplined and to take their lessons seriously.

He advised them to guard against loitering and patronizing the video centres at the time they were supposed to be in school. Mr Emmanuel Ayerh Larbi, the Assembly Member for the area, advised parents to avoid engaging their children on diamond winning and other economic activities at the expense of their education. He called on the teachers to intensify their classroom work, make good use of instructional hours; avoid absenteeism and apathy to work to ensure quality education.

The Nkwantahene later cut the sod for the construction of a 50-million-cedi kindergarten block, office and a store, which would be financed by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school.
