Amansie West to enjoy free primary education

Manso-Atwere (Ash), Jan 15, GNA-Primary school children in the Amansie West district of Ashanti are to enjoy fee-free education as from this academic year.

Mrs. Beatrice B. Prempeh, the District Director of Education who announced this, said this was in line with government’s policy to improve education and retain pupils in the primary school.

She was interacting with the Manso-Nkwanta and Manso-Atwere communities during familiarisation visits to these communities to find out how best to improve upon education in the district. Mrs Prempeh warned headteachers not to contravene this policy since any headteacher who goes contrary to the directive will not be spared at all. She appealed to the various communities to provide decent accommodation for teachers to enhance effective teaching and learning and asked parents to invest in the education of their children instead of spending their money on unprofitable ventures.

Mr Adi Darko, the District Community Participatory Co-ordinator (CPC), asked School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to undertake house-to-house visits to convince parents to send their wards and children to school.

The communities appealed to the government to open a teacher training college in the district to offer them the opportunity to get more of their children to become trained teachers for them to remain and teach there.

They also called on the district assembly to ban school children from attending video shows and wake-keeping.
