Wassa-Akropong (W/R), June 20, GNA – The Management of Amenfiman Senior Secondary School at Wassa-Akropong in the Amenfi East District has banned the use of mobile phones by students during classes.
Since the banned was announced about two weeks ago, 30 phones have been seized from students, Madam Faustina B. Adarquah, headmistress of the school told a Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) meeting at the weekend. She said the decision to ban the use of mobile phones during classes was mainly to check the frequent disruption of the attention of students
by the irritating sounds they make, when class was in session. Madam Adarquah said students, who use mobile phones do not pay attention to their academic work, while some pilfer to enable them to buy pre-paid phone cards. She noted that students, who do not pay serious attention to academic work, were those who engage in all sorts of examination malpractices, adding, ” the school authority will not spare any student, who breaks school regulations.” Madam Adarquah appealed to parents and guardians for cooperation to instil discipline in the students so that they would not become wayward. She also urged parents and guardians to pay their wards’ school fees promptly.
Mr Bernard Bimpong commended members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in the school for organising special classes for final years students even when they were on a nationwide strike. He announced that the PTA has begun a 517 million cedis two-storey teachers’ flat to ease accommodation problems facing teachers of the school.
Mr Bimpong announced the institution of a “Parents’ Day” to be celebrated each year during which, parents, teachers and students would interact and discuss common problems and find ways to address them. He assured the school of the PTA’s continued support to provide facilities that would enhance teaching and learning. Some of the students, who spoke to the GNA later, said their parents bought the mobile phones for them so that they could get in touch with them easily.
