Accra, June 5, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Monday said it was embarking on an exercise to strictly enforce its byelaws as a way of curbing growing indiscipline in the society. A statement signed by Mr. J.Y.A. Appiah, Acting Public Relations Officer of the AMA, said the Assembly intended to impound and prosecute owners of stray animals such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. It re-iterated its previous warnings that no person should allow domestic animals to stray into any public place without being attended to.
Owners of such animals would be liable to conviction to a fine, or a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both. In a related development, the AMA reminded the general public that it was an offence for people to put up posters on public places and facilities as well as operate “on-street vehicle repair and fitting shops” in the metropolis.
The statement said those found guilty of desecrating public structures and facilities with posters would be fined or sentenced to a term of imprisonment not exceeding three months, or both. The statement said the AMA would soon mount an exercise to tow all vehicles from such on-street fitting shops as well as wayside fitting shops operating without permits.
It warned that unserviceable vehicles abandoned on the streets would be sent straight to the scrap yard.
