AMA warns squatters not to rebuild demolished structures

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has warned squatters whose structures on water ways near the Korle Lagoon, were demolished not to rebuild them.

Mr Sam Ayeh-Dartey, AMA Coordinating Director, who gave the warning in a statement issued on Tuesday, said it is an offence under the rules and regulations of the Assembly for people to construct or reconstruct structures without approval.

He noted that many people in the metropolis are not complying with the bye-laws.

He cautioned that any individual or group of persons who violate the rules and regulation would be arrested and prosecuted.

He said owners of such structures would also be surcharged for the cost of removal.

The Coordinating Director said the measures have become necessary to rid Accra of filth and unauthorised structures to give the metropolis the needed facelift.
