AMA warns hawkers

Accra, Sept. 8, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Friday warned hawkers not to pay any money to fraudsters, who had been duping unsuspecting colleagues with the promise to allocate them with stalls at Odawna in Accra.

“The public is hereby cautioned that AMA has no agent collecting monies on our behalf for allocation of stalls,” it said in statement issued by the Public Relations Department.

“Anyone posing as an agent of the AMA for the purpose of collecting monies for the allocation of stalls should be quickly reported to the AMA or the security agencies,” it said.

AMA said the Government and AMA were exclusively sponsoring the hawkers’ market at Odawna jointly.

“No third parties are involved in either funding or contributing in any form whatsoever towards the implementation of the project.” AMA said at the appropriate time, AMA would decide what rates or fees prospective occupiers of the market would have to pay directly to the Assembly.

It said the selection of occupiers would be made from the original list, which was submitted by the leadership of hawkers associations immediately after the decongestion exercise.
