AMA to remove structures on waterways

Accra, April 8, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would f= rom Monday 12th April, 2010, embark on a demolition exercise to remove all unauthorized structures on waterways to reduce the perennial flooding in the city.

“The rains will surely come and the need to act quickly to prevent the reoccurrence of the perennial flooding disasters cannot be over emphasize= d.” In a statement to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) signed by Mr. James Dorgbetor, Head of Public Affairs, the AMA urged all owners of such structures to remove their personal belongings.

Places to be affected are from the Chemu Lagoon to Agege Bridge, Ala= jo Bridge to the Railways Bridge, Banana Inn (Abolo Bridge) to Sukula, Kpehe= , Caprice, Avenor to Circle and Zamaramaline. The rest are Odorkor, behind the market, Sakaman through Busia Road, Darkuman Junction, Mataheko near Faith Evangelical Church and Atiko junction. 8 April 2010
