Accra, Aug. 6, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Fats T. Nartey on Thursday said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly had decided to abrogate its relationship with the Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG).
He said this would enable the AMA to attain its target of realizing seven to eight billion cedis to execute projects in the Metropolis. Mr Nartey was speaking at the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Technical Committee on outdoor advertising with the AAG.
He said AMA’s decision to work separately with individual companies had become necessary due to the increase of unauthorized billboards in the Metropolis.
Mr Nartey said as part of an exercise to keep the city clean AMA would remove all unauthorized billboards and called on companies that had unauthorized billboards to remove them within two weeks while those with authorized ones should regularize their relationships with the AMA through the payment of their levies.
The Leadership of AAG said it was not happy with the abrogation of the ties with AMA.
Mr Norker Duah, Vice President of AAG, asked the AMA to re-consider its decision looking at the help AAG had offered the Assembly over the years.
He said advertising was their business and they all wanted the beauty of the nation.
The Managing Director of Media Magic, Mr Reginald Laryea denied that AAG was issuing illegal receipts and said members of AAG did not have unauthorized billboards.
