AMA says it will ensure vendors are healthy

Accra, Oct. 16, GNA- Dr Nii Ayitey Coleman, Medical Officer of Health of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, has said his outfit has drawn up a programme to educate laboratory technicians and health directors in the metropolis to ensure that health regulations and standards are complied with.

He said henceforth all enquiries concerning food vendors and hoteliers as well as request for their medical examination should be channelled through the Directors of Health in the six sub-metropolitan assemblies in Accra.

Dr Coleman said this when he met health directors and laboratory technicians on Wednesday.

He said request for medical examination for food vendors is the prerogative of only a physician and not a laboratory technician. ”The objective of this critical process is to ensure that food meant for human consumption is not contaminated and does not produce adverse health effects”, he said.
