AMA calls on Kaneshie Waste Management Team to act

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – Mr. Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Friday decried the appalling scene of huge uncollected garbage at the Kaneshie Market and called on the management team to immediately tackle the problem. He advised the team to close down the market for a day and tidy up the place since the unhygienic nature of the surroundings could generate into health problems.

At an emergency meeting with the Kaneshie Waste Management Team, Mr. Blankson noted that the AMA would build a waste management plant at the old library area in Accra to permanently solve the problem. He said the new dumping site would be run on a “pay as you dump” basis to make the people responsible for the refuse they generated and that the team would also ensure that anybody who dumped refuse discriminately would be sanctioned.

The Mayor said the AMA would propagate the ideals of good hygiene and sanitation by distributing flyers and collect garbage where necessary. 26 Oct. 07
