AMA boss urges staff to eschew negative attitudes

Accra, May 28, GNA – Dr Alfred Nii Okoe Vanderpuije, Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), on Thursday chided staff of the Assembly for their negative attitudes that had brought the name of the Assembly into disrepute. “The attitudes of some of our staff members to their assignments and responsibilities leave much to be desired. Some of us fall prey to temptations and thereby compromise our positions for personal gains and considerations,” he said.

Addressing his first meeting with staff of the AMA, he bemoaned instances where people in the metropolis erected illegal structures and broke the byelaws of the Assembly in connivance with some staff of the Assembly.

He noted that the challenges plaguing the Assembly were enormous and urged all the staff to come on board to find solutions to them. Dr Vanderpuije attributed the unsanitary condition in the metropolis and the erection of unauthorized structures to some unacceptable human activities and the failure on the part of the Assembly to perform their expected duties.

The Mayor appealed to the staff to work to make Accra play the frontline role in the modernization of capital cities. He called on the staff to avoid financial misconduct, indiscipline and malingering in order to give the city of Accra a new face. In an open forum, the staff appealed for higher salary, a website for the Assembly, political will to rid of the city of hawkers and frequent staff durbar.
