The Head of Planning at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly says the lack of political will on the part of leaders is one of the biggest hindrances to the city authority?s efforts to enforce bye-laws and regulations.
Nii Teiko Tagoe says the intervention of sector ministries, government departments and agencies undermine the AMA?s authority and create the erroneous impression that it is not able to execute its task of getting work in the city.
He says although the trend of interference had drastically reduced, it still remains the greatest affront to the ability of the AMA to control affairs in the city.
Nii Tagoe was speaking at a forum on environmental and consumer protection in Ghana, organized by the Ghanaian-German Economic Association in Accra.
He says Ghanaians need to realize that the only way to sustainable development is for them to abide by rules and regulations.
Mr. Tagoe expressed his displeasure at what he called the sheer indiscipline and apathy towards the environment, saying that everyone has the responsibility to ensure that the environment is freed of waste.
