Aluworks Donates to University Hostel Project

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)Alumni Jubilee Hostel Village Project last weekend received a donation of 50 million cedis from the management of Aluworks.

Mr. J.P.A. Nyarko, Managing Director of Aluworks presented the cheque on behalf of the management of his company to Mr. Kwame Saraah Mensah, president of the KNUST Alumni Association at a brief ceremony ceremony at Tema.

Mr. Nyarko said it was the company’s modest contribution to the project which seeks to provide accommodation for the more than1,000 students.

He noted that the economy of the country would move forward only if more technologists were trained in a short space of time to take up the challenging role of nation building.

Aluworks, he said would make further donations to support such institutions because the provision of good facilities in the country’s education institutions would help curb the mass exodus of students who travel outside to do post-graduate courses and never return to serve the country.

Mr. Kwame Saraah-Mensah, a former Secretary of Sports, thanked the donors for their kind gesture, and hoped that other corporate institutions would emulate it to make the project a reality.

He said the last Hall of Residence at KNUST which was opened in 1968 has become woefully inadequate less than 50 percent of the students were currently accommodated at the campus with five students officially occupying one room, a situation which affects students performance.

He said with such generous contributions, a third of the model village could be completed soon.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. E.T. AuyiBonte, chief coordinator of the Tema chapter of KNUST Alumni association, Mr. EvansY. Aryeequaye, organizer and Mr. Tony Danklu, financial secretary, all of the chapter.
