Allow students to do politics

WA, Nov. 22, GNA – Mr Alban Bagbin, Majority Leader in Parliament, has urged tertiary institutions to allow partisan political activities on campuses because it is their fundamental human rights.

Mr Bagbin, who is the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West in the Upper West Region, made the remarks in Wa at the inauguration of new executives of the University for Development Studies (UDS) branch of the Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Majority Leader said the UDS, established under an NDC government, was very dear to the current government and through the Ghana Education Service Trust Fund, it would be receive its fair the educational resources. Mr Kofi Adams, Special Aide to former President Jerry John Rawlings, called on the government to empower young graduates of tertiary institutions by supporting them with start-up capital to engage in business ventures. He said the New Patriotic Party activists and sympathizers were blaming the government for moving at a slow pace when the huge debts their government left behind rather made it impossible for President Mills’ government to move at a faster pace. 22 Nov. 09
