Alliance for Better Ghana advises fishermen against illegal fishing

Accra, June 25, GNA – Northern Alliance for a Better Ghana (NAFBEG), a pressure group has advised fishermen against the use of multifilament nets, explosives, light and other illegal methods of fishing.

A statement issued by Sulleman Abubakar Bayeta, General Secretary of NAFBEG in Accra at the weekend and copied to the Ghana News Agency said Legislative instrument (L I 1968), banned such fishing practices.

He said such methods of fishing destroyed smaller fishes or fingerlings and compel some fishes to move from Ghana waters to Angola and other countries, there by reducing the fish stock of Ghana’s territorial waters.
