Alleged thief lynched by mob in Sunyani

Sunyani, March 13, GNA – A mob at Baakoniaba in Sunyani last Friday lynched Kofi Agyei, a 40-year-old unemployed and an alleged notorious criminal, claiming they were fed up with his criminal activities in the area.

The Police when contacted confirmed the story, saying that the residents of the area had for some time been experiencing several thefts and were therefore kept on the alert to arrest the perpetrators. The Police said the deceased on Friday night attempted to steal a turkey belonging to a Mr Sadik, a resident, who caused his arrest. The residents inflicted cutlass wounds on him and beat him with stones and cudgels until he died.

The Police said the deceased was known in the area for attacking people and collecting their monies and mobile phones. Six people (names withheld) have been arrested and remanded in police custody to assist the police in investigations into the mob action while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Regional Hospital.
