Alleged rapist is remanded

Hohoe, Feb. 16, GNA – Sampson Owusu, a farmer, has been remanded into prison custody by a Hohoe Circuit court for raping a 21-year-old married woman at Bowiri Anyinase in the Hohoe Municipaity.

Owusu’s plea was not taken and he would reappear on February 19. Mr. Sampson Gbedemah, Chief Inspector of Police, told the that the victim was set upon and raped by Owusu while on her way from Bowiri Anyinase through Bowiri Amanfrom to Nsuta to deliver a message to her husband at about 1900 hours on December 17 last year.

Mr Gbedemah said Owusu accosted the victim on a footpath resulting in a struggle in which the victim managed to free herself.

He said Owusu pursued the victim and caught up with her at the community school compound and dragged her into one of the abandoned classrooms and tore her clothes and underwear and forcibly had sex with her. He said the victim’s screams attracted two people but he fled but he was pursued and caught.
