Alleged plot to kill Akufo-Addo: NPP takes action

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is taking steps to ensure the prophecy by Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah of a scheme by some politicians to assassinate the party’s flag bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before the December 7 polls does not come to pass, Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, has revealed.

Rev Owusu Bempah, the General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, last week said assassins were plotting to carry out the operation during one of Nana Addo’s campaign tours and the pulse of the party was tested when a stone was thrown at Nana Addo at a recent campaign in the Klottey Korle constituency.

“God has revealed to me that some politicians in a certain political party in Ghana are conspiring with some members of the NPP to shoot Nana dead at a campaign tour. The NPP should not take this as a joke but rather provide tight security around the man,” he said.

He has since been invited to the police for questioning.

Speaking in an interview with Accra News on Monday October 24, Mr Pyne said the party had not turned a deaf ear on such revelation.

He said: “We are not taking chances at all with the revelation he made. We are taking steps towards that.”

He further wondered why the police invited the man of God over the revelation, saying: “He (Rev Bempah) did not mention the names of those…plotting to kill Nana Addo. He did not mention John Mahama or Amissah-Arthur and so why go and arrest him? When he made the revelation in 2008 that the NDC was going to win the elections that year they were happy, and so what has changed?”
