Alleged murderer remanded

Odumase Krobo (E/R), Sept 27, GNA- An Odumase Krobo circuit court on Friday remanded a 24-year-old farmer, Atta Kofi, into prison custody for allegedly murdering an Accra businessman on the Tema-Akosombo highway.

The accused whose plea was not taken will reappear before the court presided over by Mr E.H. Ampadu, on October seven. Inspector Felix Akagyiirim of the Akuse Police station told the tribunal that the deceased, Kwasi Atta Bediako, was a businessman who owned a drinking spot in Accra, with the accused as a salesman at the bar.

He said on September nine this year, the deceased accompanied the accused to buy a jackpot machine for the bar. Inspector Akagyiirim said on reaching Kaneshie, the deceased parked his car in which he kept 1.5 million cedis and left it in the care of the accused while he went to negotiate for the price of the machine in a nearby shop.

He said by the time the deceased returned, the accused had bolted with the money. Inspector Akagyiirim said the deceased was informed that the accused was pushing a truck at Ho and therefore got the Ho police to arrest him.

He said the deceased drove his vehicle to Ho to pick the accused person together with a police escort to Accra. He said on the way, the complaint lost control of the car when the accused hooked his neck in an attempt to strangle him. In the process he crashed into an oncoming car resulting in his death. I

nspector Akagyiirim said the accused tried to bolt but he was overpowered by the police escort.
