Alleged fraudster remanded in prison custody

Sekondi June 15,GNA- The Sekondi District Magistrates’ Court, on Monday remanded an electrical technician, in Prison Custody for allegedly conspiring to defraud a mechanical technician of over 20 million cedis.

Alphonse Archer Baidoo, who pleaded not guilty to two charges of committing crime and defrauding by false, would re-appear on June 24. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said the accused promised to assist the complainant, Sulemana Bentsi, to obtain visa and travelling documents to Britain.

He said Baidoo introduced the complainant to a man identified as Prince in Accra to facilitate the travelling arrangements. Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused later collected 13 million cedis and 700 pounds sterling from the complainant and paid the amount into the bank account of Prince in Takoradi. Baidoo also persuaded the complainant, to resign from his job to embark on the trip.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said when the complainant, realised that he had been defrauded; he caused the arrest of the accused, who had since refunded five million cedis.
