Alleged defiler let off the hook

Juaso (Ash), Feb. 21, GNA – A 26-year-old mechanic apprentice who is alleged to have defiled a 14-year-old pupil, Janet Nyantakyiwaa at Atonsu near Konongo apparently leading to the death of the girl, has finally heaved a deep sigh of relief as an autopsy report did not relate her death to the defilement.

Iddrisu Adama, who is standing trial at the Juaso circuit court for defilement could have faced murder charges if the autopsy report had proven that the girl died as a result of the alleged defilement. An intense nervousness, which was visible in the countenance of Adama when he appeared in court last Thursday vanished immediately the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Stephen Opare presented the report to the court, presided over by Mr J.B. Boon that the autopsy report revealed that the girl died a natural death, thereby mitigating the severity of his case.

Owing to the latest development, Adama was granted bail in the sum of 30 million cedis with one surety to justify for the first time since he was arrested early January and will re-appear before the court on February 23 to open his defence.

Ghana News Agency, early this month reported the death of an alleged defilement victim necessitating the adjournment of the trial of Adama pending an autopsy report.
