Kumasi, July 25, GNA – The Connexional Lay Movement Council of the Methodist Church, Ghana, has invited all churches to rally solidly behind the Christian Council of Ghana in the fight against the evil practice of homosexuality in the country.
It said homosexuality and lesbianism was abominable in the sight of Go= d and offended the values, norms, customs and culture of Ghanaians. This was contained in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of its four-day 57th conference at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi. The Council called on the people to take a stand against homosexuality= , while urging the government to have the political courage to tackle it head-on.
The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, the Presiding Bishop, earlier in his closing address, said the strong partnership between the laity and clergy has helped the church to pursue its mission and vision= .. He praised the leaders, who laid a strong foundation for the church an= d asked the lay and the clergy not to relapse but to continue with the good work. Most Rev Prof Asante said the church in recent times was being buffete= d from all sides but with Christ as its foundation it had remained strong and united. Mrs Araba Ata Sam, Lay President and Chairman of the Council, encouraged the members to pull together with the sole aim of helping the church to grow and expand. She asked them to employ their God-given talents to support the variou= s ministries in the church and provide leadership in the areas of evangelism, human resource development and investment decisions. A citation was presented to Prof Ernest Christian Bilson for composing the Lay Movement’s Anthem.
