All set for elections in Nkwanta District

Nkwanta (VR), Dec. 6, GNA – Political party representatives and officials of the Electoral Commission in the Nkwanta, district have concluded certification of election materials for the 146 polling stations in the Nkwanta-North and Nkwanta-South constituencies. Mr Thomas Afo-Dodoo, Nkwanta District Electoral Officer said adequate election materials have been supplied with a 10 percent back-up.

The Nkwanta-North Constituency, which has 50 polling stations and 29,249 registered voters, is being contested by Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, incumbent NPP MP, Mr Joseph Manboah-Rockson 42,-NDC, Mr Emmanuel Gmanab 32 student-CPP and Mr Solomon Bachabori, Social Worker-Independent. Mr Nayan and Mr Manboah-Rockson were among five candidates who contested the seat in 2004. Mr Nayan then polled 6,178 votes against Mr Manboah-Rockson’s 3,678 votes.

The Nkwanta-South constituency with 96 Polling Stations and 46,073 registered voters is being contested by five candidates. These include the incumbent NDC MP, Mr Gershon Gbediame who is seeking a fourth term and Mr Joseph Denteh, District Chief Executive (DCE)-NPP, both contested the seat in 2004, with Mr Gbediame polling 15,569 against Mr Denteh’s 8,605. They have been joined by three independent candidates; Mr Oliver Ayivi, Mr David Boama Asomani and Mr Joseph Okogye for the 2008 elections.

Some voters told the Ghana News Agency that they would wake up at 0400 hours on Sunday, in order to vote early enough and leave to attend to their businesses.
