All set for district elections in Tema Metropolis

Tema, Dec. 30, GNA – The Tema Metropolitan Office of the

Electoral Commission, has so far, received all the materials for the

District Level Elections scheduled for Thursday, December 30. Mr Gabriel Manu, Metropolitan Electoral Officer, who disclosed

this to the Ghana News Agency at his Office in Tema, on

Wednesday, however, said they are yet to receive the ballot papers,

and that his office had been assured by headquarters, that they

would be ready for collection by the close of day. Mr Manu said a total of 182 candidates are contesting both the

Assembly and Unit Committee Elections in 50 Electoral Areas in the

three Constituencies within the Metropolis, namely, Tema West,

Tema East and Kpone-Katamanso. He said as many as 157 of the candidates are males, while 25 are

female. The Metro Electoral Officer disclosed that in two of the Electoral

Areas, namely, Onukpai Abu and Onyai-Nshi, only one candidate

each filed nominations to contest the Assembly elections. This, he said, therefore means that the candidates in those two

electoral areas are running unopposed. Mr Manu said a candidate each would be elected as an assembly

member, while five, out of the contestants at the unit committee

level, would be elected to represent the unit committee. He said the Kwesi Plange Electoral Area in Community One, has

the highest number of 37 candidates, who are vying for the five seats

at the Unit Committee level.
