All is set for the NDC Congress in Sunyani – Asiedu-Nketia

Accra, July 6, GNA – The National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday said all was set for its National Delegates’ Congress to elect a Flagbearer to lead the party to victory in Election 2012.

The three-day congress is scheduled for the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, Sunyani, from July 8-10.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Former First Lady is contesting President John Evans Atta Mills for the NDC flagbearership for Election 2012.

Mr Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary of the Party addressing a press conference in Accra on preparations made towards the congress, said all concerns raised about the pattern of voting had been addressed.

He said the initial decision to vote on regional basis was to facilitate the voting process but was rejected by the Campaign Team of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings known as Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR), adding that their concerns had been addressed.

Mr Asiedu-Nketia said the NDC would come out of the Sunyani congress more united and stronger than before and urged all members and sympathizers of the Party not to harbour any fears that there would be disunity among them after the congress.

He announced that logistics had been dispatched to all delegates in the Regions to enable them to attend the congress and expressed the hope that the proceedings would be peaceful.

Mr Asiedu-Nketia explained that all the delegates would be based in the same hotel to ensure that none of them was enticed. He denied allegations that the leadership of the Party would keep the delegates in secret places.

“A win for any of the aspirants is a win for the NDC; therefore nothing would be done to affect the party’s credibility as pacesetter in the country’s democracy.”

Mr Asiedu-Nketia said the leadership had provided accreditation for journalists to cover the congress and gave the assurance that security at the congress ground would be beefed up with more security personnel and CCTV cameras to identify and arrest anyone who would foment trouble.
