The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, says all five major roads being constructed under the government’s Big Push initiative in the Western North Region are expected to be upgraded to asphalt standard.
Mr Brentum made the announcement during an inspection of the Akontombra–Dadieso Road, where he was accompanied by officials from the Ghana Highways Authority and the Department of Roads and Highways.
He confirmed that the Pekyi Junction–Kudjour Road had already been designated for asphalt construction. The Enchi–Elubo Road, meanwhile, is also being developed to asphalt standard.
The minister said he was working with the Minister for Roads and Highways to ensure that the full set of five roads included in the Big Push programme received the same treatment.
The aim, he said, was to create a consistent and durable road network throughout the Western North Region.
Mr Brentum also praised the contractors involved in the projects, commending them for what he described as the quality of work being delivered.
The inspection included a review of progress on the Akontombra–Dadieso Road, a project that local officials believe will have a significant impact on transport and economic activity once completed.
Joseph Appiah, the District Chief Executive for Akontombra, specifically praised Kingspork Construction for its work on the road.
He said the completed route would improve transport links across the district and provide a boost to economic activity in the area.
The District Chief Executive for Suaman, Vasco Obour, also welcomed the progress being made on the project.
Mr Obour said the contractor’s performance had been impressive, but appealed for the current pace of construction to be maintained until the road was completed.
He said the finished project would make travel between the Suaman and Akontombra districts easier.
The improved connection is also expected to support trade and encourage further economic growth in the area, according to the Suaman District Chief Executive.
The Akontombra–Dadieso Road is one of five major roads being developed in the Western North Region through the government’s Big Push initiative. The regional minister’s announcement means the projects are intended to follow a common asphalt standard, including those already identified for that level of construction.
Officials from the Ghana Highways Authority and the Department of Roads and Highways joined the minister on the inspection tour as the government continues to assess progress on the regional road programme.
