All- African People’s Organisation to be part of Obama’s visit

Accra, June 12, GNA – All-African People’s Organisation AAPO), a Pan-African mass organisation with headquarters in Kano, Nigeria, has sent a letter to President John Evans Atta Mills, to be part of the entourage to welcome the US President, Barrack Obama, to Ghana on July 9.

The letter, which was addressed to the Secretary to the President, Mr J.K. Bebaako-Mensah, and copied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Embassy in Ghana, said members of the organisation, would use the visit to present an award to Professor Mills and the visiting President.

Mr Amusu Kwaggrey, Founder and Co-ordinator- General of AAPO signed the letter, which was made available to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday.

Mr Kwaggrey commended President Mills for his faith in democracy, Pan Africanism and the ideals of international co-operation and peaceful co-existence.

“We (AAPO) are therefore prepared to do everything possible in our capacity as a Pan-African mass movement, to support his Excellency in making the visit of the President of the United States of American to Africa, via Ghana a very successful one.” Mr Ben Anyagre, National Co-ordinator of AAPO said the enthusiastic members of the organisation, would descend on Ghana in buses to take part in the historic visit. He said the delegation would organise a press conference in Accra, to drum home the long-term vision of AAPO, about the need for continental unity. 12 June 09
