All 79 parliamentary candidates file nominations in Central Region

Cape Coast, Oct 21, GNA – All the 79 parliamentary candidates including seven independent candidates in the Central Region, had filed their nomination to contest the parliamentary seats in their various constituencies at the close of nominations last Friday.

Of the number, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had 19 candidates each and the Convention People’s Party (CPP) had 18.

The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) had 13 while the People’s National Convention (PNC) had two with the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) having one candidate.

Mr Samuel Tettey, Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) who made this known to the GNA at Cape Coast on Tuesday, said of the 19 constituencies, the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency had two female candidates, and one each for the Agona-West, Assin-South, Twifo-Atti-Morkwaa and Upper-Denkyira-East constituencies. The independent candidates, he said, were vying for seats in the Cape Coast, Mfantseman-East and West, Gomoa West, Awutu/Senya, Agona-West and Assin-South constituencies. He said the EC did not encounter any problem during the filing of the nominations which were sent to the Head Office on Tuesday. 21 Oct. 08
