Aliu tasks DCEs in the north to facilitate construction of dams

Bolgatanga (U/E), July 22, GNA – Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Thursday tasked District Chief Executives in the northern part of the country to facilitate the construction of dams to boost agricultural production and lift the people out of poverty.

“You must get consultants to package the dams,” he said, during an interaction with supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bolgatanga, who welcomed him with brass band and variety of cultural dances at the start of a week’s official tour of the Upper East Region. He said during his campaign tour of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions for election 2004, the key demand of the people was water.

“Water is life and so we will construct more dams before the 2008 general election,” he said.

Alhaji Mahama would spend the next four days visiting Garu-Tempane, Bawku West and Kassena Nankana Districts where he would interact with the chiefs and people, inspect and inaugurate a number of projects including the Association of Rural Banks APEX Bank building in Bolgatanga.
