…President Kufuor presented with a book on Ghana
Accra, July 12, GNA – Professor Ali A. Mazrui, the renowned African International Cultural Historian and Political Scientist, on Monday presented a copy of the book; “Ghana in Africa and the World” to President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

The book of eight volumes written by about 30 authors was dedicated to Professor Albert Adu-Boahen, a renowned Ghanaian Historian, politician and former President of the International Editorial Board of UNESCO on History of Africa.

Professor Mazrui, who is in the country to deliver the inaugural lecture on: “Human Rights and African Obligations: Moral Universalism and Cultural Relativism” being organised by Africa Legal Aid (AFLA), expressed appreciation to be in Ghana, the cradle of continental Pan Africanism.

He said Ghana was the appropriate place for the inauguration of such lectures that would also coincide with the relocation of AFLA’s Headquarters from Maastricht (the Netherlands) to Accra.

Professor Mazrui said Professor Adu-Boahen edited the seventh volume while he (Professor Mazrui) edited the eighth volume. Receiving the book, President Kufuor said the publication was an honour done to Ghana and Professor Adu-Boahen, who has served Africa for a very long time.

The AFLA Lecture Series is an initiative designed to bring together legal practitioners, civil society groups, policy makers, members of the judiciary, academics and experts from related fields to share ideas on contemporary human rights issues, especially within an African context and from an African perspective.

AFLA is a Pan-African organisation working for the respect and recognition of human rights through legal protection.

Core areas of AFLA’s activities include the African human rights system and issues pertaining to international justice including the fight against impunity and the introduction of African perspectives to international debates.
