Alex Korankye defeated at NPP primaries

Bompata (Ash), July 28, GNA – Mr Alex Kwaku Korankye, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim South Constituency was on Tuesday defeated by Mrs Gifty Ohene-Konadu, Finance Officer at the Ministry of Regional Co-operation and NEPAD at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries held at Bompata in Ashanti Region.

Mrs Ohene-Konadu won with 73 votes, followed by Mrs Margaret Afrakomah Campbell, a Maritime Lawyer, 31 votes; Mr Korankye, 12 votes and Mrs Anna Darcing Owusu-Antwi, four votes.

Speaking at the primaries, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communications, told the Party Constituency Executives and the delegates that, after intensive campaign for the election, “we have all settled on one candidate. We, therefore, have to support her to enable her to win the parliamentary elections in December”.

He said the Government had contracted billions of dollars of loans, therefore, if the Government initiated a policy that had brought about debt cancellation “we should be grateful for such an initiative.”

Mrs Ohene-Konadu expressed her gratitude to the delegates for electing her and promised to work hard to raise the image of women in the Constituency.
