Flagbearer Aspirant of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyeremanten, has said his sobriquet, “Alan Cash,” was an imposition, by people who misunderstood his brand proposition of “Job for the people, cash for your pocket,” during his previous flagbearership bid.
Kyeremanten says his political detractors have twisted the slogan to appear as though he is not a serious politician. The former Trade minister said: “ I thought I needed a brand advantage which will enable me deal with the problem we had at hand,” adding: “My value proposition as a politician was that I will make a difference in this country by, particularly, helping businessmen to succeed.”
The twice-defeated Flagbearer Aspirant said creating the needed atmosphere for the business community to operate, while creating wealth for the ordinary Ghanaian through jobs, will be his priority when given the opportunity.
“When a government creates jobs, it creates income avenues for people, thereby improving their living condition,” he noted.
“My emphasis during the campaign was more with job creation which will give you cash, so I said this was imposed on me, I knew what I was doing, so I could turn this into an advantage,” he stated.
He made the comments on Wednesday July 16, 2014, when he spoke on Accra-based private radio station, Joy Fm.
Kyeremanten is having a third go at the flagbearer slot, ahead of the 2016 general elections. The steering committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has proposed Saturday August 30, 2014 for a special delegates’ conference to sift the number of presidential aspirants from seven to five as stipulated by the party’s constitution.
Other aspirants are twice-defeated presidential hopeful, Nana Akufo- Addo; former information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng; former Minister of Trade, Kofi Konadu Apraku; former Attorney, General Joe Ghartey; and MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo.
