People dressed in the T-shirts of Alan Kyerematen and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, two leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who are contending for the flagbearership slot of the party, will not be allowed to take part in a proposed mammoth demonstration against the NDC administration in Kumasi on Tuesday, June 10.
The Ashanti Regional NPP and the Parliamentary Caucus, organizers of the demonstration christened, ‘Ya Ye Den Demonstration,’ or ‘Black Tuesday,’ have stated that their decision to hit the streets was not geared towards championing the political ambition of any person.
They have, therefore, vowed to prevent any person that would wear the T-shirts of any politician from joining the expected thousands of residents in the region who would be staging the protest against government’s poor management of the country’s economy.
Sam Pyne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, in a chat with DAILY GUIDE, admonished residents, especially those loyal to the NPP, to take note and try not to use the occasion to champion the political ambitions of their favourite politicians.
Mr. Sam Pyne said the demonstration was also being organized ostensibly for the residents to vent their anger at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over its seeming biased attitude towards the people of the Ashanti Region.
The NPP scribe in the region noted that the power crisis and inept government policies had worsened the plight of the citizenry.
According to him, people who would take part in the demonstration could dress in either black or red to show to the government that the people in the Ashanti Region are saddened by the maltreatment.
Mr. Pyne stated that party colours would not be allowed at the event, although the demonstration was being organized by the NPP leaders in the region.
The NPP Scribe announced that police permit had been duly secured by the leaders of the demonstration, adding that the regional police command would detail police personnel to offer protection for the demonstrators.
He disclosed that the demonstrators would start the protest at State Boys, near Suame Roundabout at 7:00 am and go through Bantama, Gee Roundabout, Pampaso, Adum, Asafo Interchange, Alabar and terminate at Abbey’s Park.
