Akyemmansa Assembly gets new assembly hall

A GH? 946,769.64 ultra-modern two-storey administration block for the Akyemmansa District Assembly would be ready for use by May.

This would bring relieve to personnel of the assembly who operates from a classroom block belonging to the local Methodist Church since its creation in 2007.

Mr Tom Budu, the District Chief Executive, made this known when he conducted the Ghana News Agency round the project to inspect progress of work at Akyem-Ofoase in the Eastern Region.

The project is being funded solely from the assembly’s share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund.

Mr Budu said it has been very difficult and inconvenient for staff to share their small plywood-partitioned offices with other decentralised departments of the assembly.

Lack of suitable and adequate office accommodation, he said had affected staff postings because some of the personnel refused to stay and work on assumption of duty.

The building, which contains about 25 offices in addition to a 250-capacity assembly hall, would enable all personnel of the assembly and majority of decentralised departments to be accommodated.

A major constraint confronting the assembly however is lack of funds to furnish the building.

Mr Budu therefore appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for assistance.

He commended staff of the assembly for their sacrifices and commitment to work under very difficult conditions.

He also praised the contractors, Meessrs Ikeboa Construction Limited for a good job done and also for their patience in respect of the delay by the assembly in honouring certificates presented for payments.

The Managing Director of Ikeboa Construction, Mr Isaac Kwame Yeboah said some minor plumbing works are left to be done and expressed the hope to hand over the project by the deadline.

He said during the course of the construction work, the company lost about GH? 10,000.00 worth of building materials like cement, plumbing and electrical fittings due to theft.
