Akyem State University in the Offing

Akyem Asene (E/R), June 22, GNA – The Catholic Bishop of Koforidua Diocese, Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyekum, has cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of Akyem State University College at Akyem Asene.

He praised the initiators of the programme, especially the Director of the Akyem State College at Akyem Oda, Nana Yaw Asare Djikunu for his foresight. Nana Asare-Djikunu said the establishment of the University College would respond to the high demand for university education in the country.

He said due to limited vacancies in tertiary institutions, majority of students who quality to enter such institutions are unable to do so hence the need for the establishment of the University college. Nursing, engineering and criminology are some of the degree programmes the university college will run. Nana Asare-Djikunu said since crime was on the ascendancy in the country, personnel from the security agencies needed to constantly upgrade their knowledge in crime prevention.
