Akyawkrom school gets GH¢103,000.00 ICT centre

A GH¢103,000.00 Information, Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, built for the Akyawkrom D/A Basic School in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality, was on Thursday inaugurated with fanfare.

The center, funded by the MTN Ghana Foundation as part of its social responsibility, would serve as a hub for computer literacy and the promotion of academic excellence among the pupils.

Mr Michael Ikpoki, the Chief Executive Officer of the MTN Ghana, said their goal was to aid the country to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on education and health.

The telecom company has over the last six years supported a number of projects in the two sectors by way of the construction of school blocks, library refurbishment, ICT facilities and health centres with the total investment amounting to over GH¢11 million.

Mr. Ikpoki said they were now raising their investment in ICT since it had become a major learning and development tool.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh lauded the Foundation for the project and said he was confident that the facility would significantly enhance the teaching of ICT in the school.

He used the occasion to remind parents to put premium on the education of their children.

Nana Tutu Ampem II, Chief of Akyawkrom, praised Dr. Osei Akuoko, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), for his pivotal role to get the center constructed.
