Akwapim South benefit from 369 million cedis credit

The Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs has since March disbursed ?369m to various women’s groups in the Akwapim South District to support poverty alleviation among women in the area.

More of such interventions are to be extended to many more women in the District since the Women Development Fund is an on-going programme.

Mrs Gladys Asmah, the Sector Minister, said this on Wednesday when Mr Seth Dankwa Wiafe, NPP- Akwapim South, asked what plans the Ministry had for poverty reduction in the District.

The Minister said in March 2002, ?20m was disbursed to 40 women farmers through the Akwapim South Rural Bank and in October 2002, another ?50m was also disbursed to two groups of 50 women as working capital to process cassava into gari.

Four women groups were given ?199m in January 2003 to enhance their trading business and another ?100m was disbursed to women farmers in the District in April.
