Akwamuhene denies being a stumbling block

Kumasi, Aug. 7, GNA – Nana Oti Obuadua, Akwamuhene of Nyinahin in the Atwima District has denied that he was the stumbling block to the coronation of a chief at Nyinahin.

Reacting to a Ghana News Agency (GNA) story, which said the people of Nyinahin perceived him as the stumbling block to the installation of one Mr Abora Boateng, the Akwamuhene said the crowning of a chief was not like secular appointments, which depended on paper qualification. “The enstoolment of a chief is purely traditional and governed by customary laws and cultural identity,” he explained.

He said it was not true that the majority of Nyinahin citizens supported Abora Boateng as a popular choice, “rather, the overwhelming majority of Nyinahin citizens, including strangers – all supported one Mr Adomako to be the chief of Nyinahin”.

Nana Obuadua was particularly not happy with the Nyinahin Police, who he claimed, lied to the GNA and cautioned public officials as well as politicians to be careful about their utterances.

The Akwamuhene called on all parties to wait for the final ruling on the Nyinahin chieftaincy affair from the Manhyia Palace, the final authority.

On allegations that he was chased by a mob wielding sticks and cudgels and that he sought refuge at the Police station, Nana Obuadua said, even though, it was true, it was a handful of disgruntled drunks, who chased him to the station.

He said the case was pending before the Divisional Police Commander and the Regional CID.

The GNA had reported that the Police had to rescue Nana Obuadua from an irate mob that chased him.
