Ghanaian singer and songwriter Akwaboah has come out strongly in defense of rapper Sarkodie, following a controversial claim made by social commentator Bongo Ideas regarding a promotional track created for FirstBank Ghana.
Bongo Ideas, whose real name is Albert Nat Hyde, alleged that Sarkodie had failed to compensate a young man identified as @officialodjidja, who he claimed performed the hook on the bank’s promo song. The social media personality went as far as sharing a photo of the ailing young man, asserting that he was now bedridden and in a dire medical condition — allegedly worsened by the fact that he never received any payment for his contribution.
“This is the current state of the guy who sang the hook for the promo track you did for @FirstBankGhana. He’s terribly sick and bedridden as he did not make even a dime from the gig,” Bongo Ideas posted on social media, attaching a tweet from Sarkodie promoting the project.
But in a swift rebuttal, Akwaboah, a former signee of Sarkcess Music, debunked the entire narrative, labeling it as false and misleading. He clarified that he, not the young man, wrote the hook, and only had the individual sing it as a personal choice.
“Yo stop lying on Sark bruh!!! I wrote the hook… I made him sing… he’s ma boy and Sark doesn’t know him. Get facts right,” Akwaboah asserted in a strongly worded post.
His intervention has helped set the record straight and clear Sarkodie’s name, as many fans rallied in support of the rapper, urging social media users to verify facts before jumping to conclusions.
The incident has reignited conversations about the role of responsible commentary online and the potential damage caused by viral misinformation.
